Pre-Fibro, DIY moving used to be a snap. Sort, pack, clean, fill a truck ... no problemo.
Then Fibromyalgia came along. Now, what I once could do on my own in 2 or 3 days, I need the help of others and 3 to 4 weeks. This shall be the last time that I do a DIY move unless I am moving into a completely furnished home and all I have to do is bring a suitcase or two.
I'm used to be an owner and find this rental gig to be frustrating. As an owner, you don't really think about an exit strategy. You know:
How long will I be living here?
Can I do a complete and thorough cleaning at move out or will I have to put away money now into a "move out cleaning" savings account for someone else to do the cleaning?
If I hang pictures, do I have the skill to repair nail holes?
If I get a pet, will I be prepared and skilled enough to eradicate all traces of pet urine and feces? (I don't like pets for this very reason. No matter how thorough you are with cleaning, something always shows up under a black light. Yes, go to Amazon.com and by yourself a black light, they're great for move-in to catch crud from previous tenants and to renegotiate your lease for better pre-move-in cleaning and to check your cleaning upon move-out.
What's the bare minimum that I am willing to relocate and can I live here for an extended period of time as a minimalist (can I go without buying extra stuff that I will only end up throwing away or putting in storage when I move?)?
Will there be people that I can rely on to help me pack and move if I decide to DIY my move out?
Will I be able to pay professional movers if I can't physically handle a DIY move?
Anyway, my current move is not going so good. My daughter works from 3:30 am to 1 pm as a News EP. Therefore she has just a few hours to help pack. She has a lot of energy and drive but unfortunately, our biological clocks are on different schedules. I can't do very much by myself so I feel like I'm not getting anything accomplished.
