Today I combined self-care, pampering, and Fibromyalgia management. I've been in a flare since Thursday, when I joined other family members in the kitchen to cook during a BBQ celebrating my nephew's high school graduation. 2 months of physical therapy and functional restoration (FR) type exercises, and 8 pain shots were wiped out by 30 minutes of standing in the kitchen cooking and laughing with the other women of my family.
So, I decided to nip this flare in the butt before it got started. I took all my prescribed meds as instructed. I took a looong a&$ hot shower, my brother's water bill is going to suffer for that one, and thank goodness, I had a previously scheduled appointment with my goddaughter. Faith is a student esthetician at Hair Professionals Career College in Palos Hills, IL. I went in to be a model for Faith. Students must perform a certain amount of appointments for
each treatment type. I got a facial at this appointment.
Well, I am a happy camper. As Faith began working on me, she placed a steam machine at my face, it was kind of like being in the steam room. She then began to apply various products to my face ranging from exfoliants to toners. She used gentle strokes with mild pressure ... in other words a nice Fibro friendly face massage. I began to drift in and out of relaxing sleep. Once finished with my face, Faith began to massage my neck and shoulders.
I was in the Fibro Zone. I was dreaming that I was in a field of purple flowers being crushed by heavy orange balloons. I guess the orange balloons represented the headache, low back pain and overall achiness. As Faith worked, my headache began to subside. By the time I walked out of HP Career College, I did not have a headache anymore. Simply working on my neck and shoulders, I realized that my lower back was loosening up. As the pain lessened, in my dream the balloons began to float away.
Eventually, I found myself lying in a field of fragrant purple flowers.
