¿Qué dijiste? What not to say to a person with Fibromyalgia.

No matter how much you want to help a person with Fibromyalgia ... No matter how much you think the following is comforting or inspiring ... Don't say them out loud to your friend, coworker, or family member.

Don't Tell Me:

1. You know your pain is all in your head!

2. Maybe if you lose (or gain) some weight your pain will go away.

3. Just give it over to God.

4. Don't claim it.

5. God never gives us more than we can bare.

6. You look fine to me.

7. Don't worry about it, things will get better.

8. You're still in pain?!

9. You know that's not a real disease.

10. Everyone has pain.

11. My doctor tried to tell me I have that, but I know I don't.

12. I hurt myself, do you think I have what you have?

13. Why should you get disability just because you have pain?

14. If you didn't _______ (fill in the blank), you wouldn't have chronic pain.

15. I have a friend with your disease, they don't act like, look like, or, have it as bad/good as you.

16. I admire you, I don't think I could do what you do if I had as much pain as you.

17. I heard about this new treatment, saw a report about your condition, did you hear/see/try it?

18. At least you're not using a cane, in a wheelchair, or, bedridden.

19. Why do you use that cane, wheelchair, or are bedridden?

20. You still go to the doctor/physical therapy!?!

21. How can you have pain/be disabled when yesterday you did _______ (fill in the blank)?

22. Could be worse, you could have cancer/diabetes/MS etc.
