Are Your Pain Management Goals Achievable?
Blog Moven writes, “Is your … goal possible and do you have the control to make it happen?”
My goal is possible and I do have the control to make it happen.
All I have to do is set aside the time for a physical therapy program that incorporates an ongoing exercise program. This means I have to find a physical therapy program and/or FR program associated with a fitness center. DONE! Ochsner has a medical fitness center and there is not one, but two physical therapy centers. There’s one PT office right within the walls of the medical fitness center and the other one is across the street. The PT office across the street has a pool for aqua therapy. Both PT offices will develop a personalized PT program that is easily adjustable to a regular exercise routine. Within the medical fitness center, there are personal trainers with knowledge of medical issues. I have already been assigned a personal trainer who not only has professional knowledge of Fibromyalgia, but he has personal experience due to having a close family member with Fibro.
Is for Achievable
So, what makes my goal achievable?
For a goal to be achievable, you have to have action steps that YOU will perform. I want to get my pain, fatigue and other Fibromyalgia symptoms back to my baseline of 5. This goal is achievable because I can break it down into action steps or incremental goals;
Incremental Pain Management Goals
I want to get my pain and other symptoms down to a level of 8 in four weeks,
I want to get my pain and other symptoms down to a level of 7 in eight weeks,
I want to get my pain and other symptoms down to a level of 6 in twelve weeks,
I want to get my pain and other symptoms down to a level of 5 in sixteen weeks.
To achieve the first incremental goal, I will have to preform specific actions in order to build up the strength and stamina to;
ride the NuStep for 5 minutes,
do two sets of 5 reps with 5 pounds of weights on the abductor, adductor and leg extension machines,
do 5 minutes on the Pilates machine,
for 4 consecutive weeks.
To achieve the second incremental goal, I will have to work to build up the strength and stamina to;
ride the NuStep for 5 minutes,
do two sets of 10 reps with 5 pounds of weights on the abductor, adductor and leg extension machines,
do 5 minutes on the Pilates machine,
for an additional 4 consecutive weeks, bringing me into week 8.
To achieve the third incremental goal, I will have to work to build up the strength and stamina to;
ride the NuStep for 10 minutes,
do two sets of 15 reps with 10 pounds of weights on the abductor, adductor and leg extension machines,
do 10 minutes on the Pilates machine,
for an additional 4 consecutive weeks, bringing me into week 12.
To achieve the fourth incremental goal, I will have to work to build up the strength and stamina to;
ride the NuStep for 10 minutes,
do three sets of 15 reps with 10 pounds of weights on the abductor, adductor and leg extension machines,
do 10 minutes on the Pilates machine,
for an additional 4 consecutive weeks, bringing me into week 16.
Are my goals achievable? I'm going to be honest here, I think so, I'm a little nervous but I must
admit I've set my goals at the bare minimum so I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.
